Caribbean: Patricia Scotland QC- sixth and first lady Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, who is currently on her official tour to various Caribbean regions, expressed pleasure to be back in the Commonwealth of Dominica, which is her land of birth.
On Tuesday, May 30, 2022, Patricia Scotland outlined her pleasure to present his land of birth named Dominica, at the position of the Secretary General of the Commonwealth.
Patricia Scotland emphasized, “It was a joy to be back in #Dominica, the land of my birth, for a brief but worthwhile visit while in the #Caribbean.”
She stated that she always worked for the upliftment of the people of Dominica. Patricia Scotland also talked about the aim of the Nature Isle of the Caribbean of being the first climate-resilient nation by investing in infrastructure and various projects such as Geothermal.
Patricia Scotland added, “I’m in awe at the resilience of the people of Dominica and proud that The Commonwealth has supported them on their journey to build back better and enhance #Climate Resilience.”
She asserted that it’s extraordinary to be back here in Dominica, which is, of course the land of her birth but also to see how much has changed.
“I cannot but remember that when I came home in 2015 after Tropical Storm Erika and I was the Disaster Relief Coordinator. I saw a devastated Dominica, and it had lost 85 percent of its GDP,” underlined Patricia Scotland.
She also outlined the devastation faced by Dominica by Hurricane Maria and noted that two years later, in 2017, Dominica was hit by the largest hurricane in living memory at that time and lost 226 percent of its GDP; everywhere looked, it was devastation.

She underscored, “If you look at where we are now, and you look at Dominica five years on, this is a real story of regeneration and resilience.”
CSG emphasized that the people of Dominica have dug deep, and they have built back better.
While expressing pleasure, Scotland stressed that she is so proud that they in the Commonwealth Secretariat have walked their journey with Dominica from the time she became CSG in 2016 until now.
