Indian government hosts 17th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas convention, PM Modi lauds diaspora 

The government of India hosted the 17th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas (PBD) in collaboration with the government of Madhya Pradesh under the theme of "Diaspora." The convention has taken place from Janaury 8 to January 10, 2023. in Indore.

India: The government of India hosted the 17th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas (PBD) in collaboration with the government of Madhya Pradesh under the theme of “Diaspora.” The convention has taken place from Janaury 8 to January 10, 2023. in Indore. 

The convention featured huge gatherings of several ministers and government delegations along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, such as Indian External Affairs Minister of India S Jaishankar and the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chauhan and other top government officials. The convention contained the speech of PM Narendra Modi and other government officials.

While applauding the Indian Diaspora, PM Narendra Modi, during his address, asserted that Pravasi Bhartiya (Diaspora) living in major countries in the world represented the cultural values and customs of India. They are the Brand Ambassadors of the country. 

The aim of the staging of the convention is to acknowledge the role of the Indian diasporas across the globe, such as in the UK, the US and Canada. PM Narendra Modi referred to the convention as an important step and added that it provides a suitable platform for India and its Diaspora to maintain the connection and strengthen the engagement. 

Shedding light upon its significance, PM Modi added that the step is unique as the nation has currently completed 75 years of freedom, and it is the first-ever exhibition held under the theme of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.

He continued that the Bhartiya Pravasi played a significant role in the next 25 years of Amrit Kaal for India. PM Modi stressed that with the substantial support of the Indians living aborad, the country could grow better, and its global vision and order could be strengthened. 

He said that Indian should also showcase the real facts and stories of the history of the country with the culture and values across the globe. Various attendees have expressed their support toward the step of the Indian government, and the Indian diaspora also showed love. 

President of Guyana, Dr Irfaan Ali also attended the convention and said that the Government of Guyana and the State Government of Madhya Pradesh are working together on developing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a clear definition for economic cooperation.

He also spoke about the vast investment opportunities that are accessible not only in Guyana but the entire Caribbean region while reaffirming that Guyana aims to become a “cornerstone” in the market for human resources, finance, hospitality, health, education and climate services, among other areas.
