India: “Kantara”- a blockbuster film from Kannada (India) production has received the screening in the Pathe Balexert theatre Geneva on March 17, 2023. The screening was attended by around 220 people including UN representatives, Heads of International Organisations from Germany, Brazil, UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development), ITU (International Telecommunication Union) WHO (World Health Organisation), Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Indian diaspora.
The film received a positive and appreciative response at its screening in Geneva. The movie is based on the story of the fictional village of Dakshina Kannada and the character named Kambala. Rishab Shetty who is the director of the movie also played the main lead in the movie. While portraying the local culture of Karnataka, the movie efficiently deposited amalgamates myth, fiction, folklore and the eternal tussle between man and forest. The movie widely sheds light on the challenges posed by climate change and outlines various environmental issues.
Further, the event also featured the speech of the Indian PR, highlighting several aspects of the multi-lingual films in India. He stressed that Kannada films have a 10 percent contribution to the Indian film industry.
The Rishab Shetty directorial “Kantara” received huge appreciation and accolades across the globe and secured a massive box office collection. The film has run around 100 days in the theatres in February and on that day, Rishab Shetty also announced the prequel of the movie.
While expressing pleasure, he added that they are thankful to the audience who made their movie a big success and shower huge love, and support on the movie. He said that this is due to their love that the movie has paved its way to the United Nations and completed its 100 days.
He took the moment as the opportunity to announce that they will also make Kanatara’s prequel. Shetty added that the movie that everyone has seen is actually Part 2 and Part 1 is all set to come next year. The idea has come into his mind when he was shooting Kantara and added that there is a need to go into more depth and the research is progressing on that part.
Talking about the language barrier, Rishab Shetty said that the movies are crossing that barrier as if the connect has the capability to connect with the audience, the movie will be accepted as an All-Indian movie.
