ICAP, Cuba receives 1,920,000 syringes donation from Canada

The Canadian Solidarity Network has donated 1,920,000 syringes to the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) on Tuesday in order to assist Cuba in its vaccination drive of COVID-19. ICAP thanked and appreciated the efforts of the Canadian Solidarity Network.

While receiving the donation of syringes, the first vice president of ICAP – Noemí Rabaza, outlined that around twenty organizations, friends of the Caribbean nation, unions and Cubans living there managed to raise over 130 thousand dollars for the initiative.

The first vice president stated, “All of them had to face the limitations & obstacles imposed by the absurd policy of economic, commercial & financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, increased in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Recently, the Canadian government & the United Nations Children’s Fund managed to send a donation to the Caribbean island with more than – 1,200,000 tablets and – 400,000 ampules of dexamethasone.

Despite this, numerous solidarity groups from nations such as – Germany, Mexico, Panama, Italy, and the US deployed campaigns to obtain funds and purchase syringes in order to contribute to the COVID-19 vaccination process in the island territory.

As per the Ministry of Public Health, over 4 million 835 thousand people have received at least one jab of the immunogens of national production against the infection which has been caused by the – coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, out of which, 3 million 37 thousand 69 made the three injections.

Currently, the nation is going through a challenging situation due to the tightening of the blockade imposed by the government of the United States and the current outbreak of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic. The island recorded 9,772 new confirmed with COVID-19 so far, for which there are 44,158 active cases.
