“I am horrified by widespread reports of police brutality against farmers,” says MP Vaz, in letter to UK Foreign Secretary

UK: Member of Parliament from Walsall South, Valerie Vaz, has written a letter to the Foreign Secretary regarding Indian Agricultural reforms and farmers protests on behalf of her constituent members on Wednesday, Feb 3, 2021.

In the letter, she wrote, “My constituents are concerned that this legislation will place all purchasing powers in the hands of large corporations, removing safeguards which protect farmers from exploitation and ensure fair prices for their produce.”

She added,” My constituents and I are horrified by widespread reports of police brutality against the farmers protesting these laws, who are asserting their right to peaceful protest. Many have raised human rights concerns over the way peaceful protestors are being treated. in several instances, police have fired tear gas shells, used water cannons, and ordered the suspension of internet connection for long periods. “ 

She further noted that it is alarming that several senior Indian Journalists face charges of sedition over their reporting and online posts about the farmers ‘ protests. Any attempt to target journalists for reporting on these protests undermines democracy and the freedom of the press. 

“Pleases contact the Indian Government as a matter of urgency regarding these concerning events. My constituents have close family ties in India who are directly affected by this issue, and therefore these events are very personal to them. “ She wrote.

Many global leaders and notable persons raised their voices against Inhuman activities which is going on in India. 

UK Member Parliament Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi lambasted the ongoing activities against farmers’ protest at New Delhi and called them inhumane action by the police force.
