Haiti: One of Haiti’s Justice officials, while talking to the media, has stated that he has picked a judge to supervise the case of the slaying of President Jovenel Moïse amid concerns over death threats and demands for additional security.

The dean of the court of the first instance in Port-au-Prince – Magistrate Bernard Saint-Vil, stated that Mathieu Chanlatte would be in charge of proceedings involving the July 7 attack at President Jovenel Moïse’s private home. The Magistrate added, “The judge is very competent.”

Some people praised the choice, including Haitian attorney Steevens Rosemond, who is not involved in the case. Rosemond asserted, “I ask that the Haitian state guarantee the safety of this Magistrate so that he can do his work in accordance with the standards.”

The people are expecting justice for the late President Moise.

Earlier last week, the Magistrate stated that he had urged additional security measures as he prepared to select a judge to oversee the case.

“Death threats are pervasive in high-profile slayings in Haiti, and several court clerks probing President Moïse’s death have already gone into hiding after being ordered to change some names & statements in their reports,” the Magistrate added.

So far, over 40 individuals have been arrested in the case by the Haitian Police officials, including 18 former Colombian soldiers & 20 Haitian police officers. The Police authorities are still seeking some personalities in the assassination case of the Haitian President, including an ex-senator, a judicial official and a judge of the Haitian Supreme Court.

Haitian government’s request that was being made to the United Nations for a special inquiry into the assassination of President Jovenel Moise is still pending.

In addition, the Wife of late President Moise – Martine Moise has indicated her candidacy for the presidency a few days back.
