A fisherman informed on Sunday that he saw a suspected Haitian vessel that was half-submerged in the waters off Flamingo Cay. According to the statement by RBDF.

400 Haitian nationals are supposed to get removed from the abandoned cay in the Ragged Island chain. On Monday, this was disclosed in the statement of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force.

Flamingo and Water Cays, Ragged Island were the areas where different groups of suspected were seen. After getting this information, Operation Bahamas Trucks and Caicos went to those areas where the suspected individuals were sighted.

The statement stated, “Defence Force assets along with Police Marines and Immigration officials were also alerted, and were dispatched to the area, and are already on the scene while Her Majesty’s Bahamian Ships Lawrence Major and Lignum Vitae are enroute to Flamingo Cay and adjacent Cays to extract this latest group of migrants.”

According to some reports, this incident has been noted after the arrest of more than 500 Haitians during the last few weeks. The officials said that those individuals had been detained further in Mathew Town, Inagua. They have been processed further by the appropriate authorities.

The statement further added, “The Royal Bahamas Defence Force continues to maintain a vigilant watch against the migrant surge and remains committed to collaborating with local and international partner agencies, and the fishing community, while protecting the territorial integrity of The Bahamas and keeping our borders secured.”

Prime Minister of Haiti Ariel Henry stated migration would be in place till the time there is inequality in the society. This statement came after the US government deported thousands of Haitian migrants from Texas borders.

During a debate in 76th United National General Assembly on Saturday, PM Henry said, “human beings, fathers and mothers who have children, are always going to flee poverty and conflict. Migration will continue as long as the planet has both wealthy areas, whilst most of the world’s population lives in poverty, even extreme poverty, without any prospects of a better life.”
