Haiti: On Sunday, January 2, 2021, an attempt to assassinate the Prime Minister of Haiti, Ariel Henry, occurred at a church in the city of Gonaives.

As per some initial reports, a massive crowd was gathered at the church to celebrate the 218th anniversary of the country’s Independence. Prime Minister Henry was also present at the event.

When PM was about to leave the church, an armed person suddenly opened fire at PM Henrey. However, the attack went out to fail as he hadn’t gotten any single injury.

Moreover, the clash between the massive gathering occurred due to sudden firing, which has killed one person. Many people in the church get injured and wounded due to firing and clashes.

After the attack, the unidentified attacker was captured by the police officials of Haiti. Police further killed that attacker.

As per some reports, Prime Minister was already warned by some local gang not to come out, even though PM visited different places and vibrantly ignored the threats.

Due to this incident, Haitian authorities have ordered to cancel all the events organised in the wake of the anniversary of Independence.

Earlier, Jovenel Moise, a predecessor of Henry, was also suffered from assassination. On July 7, he was shot at his home, and his wife, Martine Moise, got injured with a gunshot wound. The incident shocked Haiti’s residents and created political instability in the nation. Moreover, it shooks the crime rate in the country.

Haiti authorities have captured 40 suspects so far for their involvement in the assassination. The suspects also included 18 former Colombian soldiers and several Haitian police officers.

Haiti is the country that reported the highest crime rate in the Caribbean and the Latin American region. The government is also fighting several other issues like Hunger and poverty crisis.

The crimes like kidnappings, gang violence, and murders are the criminal activities becoming common in the country.
