President Dr Irfaan Ali handed over more than two dozen vehicles to over 20 communities in the Rupununi during his visit to Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) as part of his Government’s aggressive push to enhance the lives of people living in the hinterland.

Guyana: President Dr Irfaan Ali handed over more than two dozen vehicles to over 20 communities in the Rupununi during his visit to Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) as part of his Government’s aggressive push to enhance the lives of people living in the hinterland.
Among the vehicles distributed for community development were tractors with trailers, canters, buses and ATVs. A pickup and a backhoe were also handed over.
The communities of Karaudanawa, Aishalton, Awaruwaunau, Sawariwau, Kwaimatta, Yakarinta, Toka, Woweta, Massara, Crash Water, and Kumu received buses; In contrast, Shea, Kattur, Semonie and Koksheabi received ATVs and Parishara, Hiawa and Quarrie received tractors.
Katoka and Nappi received canters, while St Ignatius received a backhoe and Massara a pickup.
On Saturday afternoon, after a community outreach at Yupukari, the President also handed over a repaired village minibus and tractor with a trailer to Fly Hill and a tractor with a trailer each to Quatata and Kaicumbay.
Dr Irfaan Ali and members of his Cabinet met with residents of Yupukari and surrounding satellite villages in the Rupununi earlier on Saturday, April 16, 2022. President Ali emphasised to the residents that his Government remains committed to ensuring their development and that of the entire Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo).
He said that this year, some $3.7b will be spent on hinterland roads and bridges to open up new communities and new farmlands that will improve the lives and livelihoods of residents.
“Our primary objective is to ensure the lives of all the people of our country are improved.” The Head of State added that whatever benefits people on the coastland receive will likewise be available in the hinterland.
He also listened to the concerns of the residents and provided on-the-spot solutions.
Meanwhile, three tractors were handed over to the villages of Kaicumbay, Fly Hill and Quatata. A repaired village bus was also returned to Fly Hill.
