Guyana: President Irfaan Ali visits Sand Creek in Region Nine to continue his community tour

Guyana: President Irfaan Ali received a warm welcome from the residents of Sand Creek in Region Nine during his visit to the community over the weekend. After interacting with the residents, speaking about his Government’s plans and listening to their concerns, the Head of State handed over a chainsaw and sport equipment to the community.

Toshao Eugene Andrew said residents there have seen the development in the Hinterland. The Head of State was joined by the Minister of Amerindian Affairs,Pauline Sukhai; the Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Nigel Dharamlall and the Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water, Susan Rodrigues.

President Irfaan Ali told hundreds of South Central Rupununi residents gathered in Shulinab Village that his Government would ensure that more opportunities are available for their economic advancement.

To this end, he announced a $10m project, which will see an order placed for the production of 300,000 blocks from the communities in South Central Rupununi. This investment, he noted, will support the hinterland housing programme.

“Your community advancement is the most important thing for us.” President Ali also announced the provision of four tractors to the communities, a cassava mill, a chainsaw, brush cutters, fertilizers and seeds and sport equipment.

These items were in response to requests made at the National Toshaos Conference and from letters sent.The Head of State noted that the “items will help in the empowerment of communities and building of capacity”. President Ali and his team are on a three-day visit to communities in Region Nine.

Dr Irfaan Ali told residents of Aishalton in the Deep South Rupununi in Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) that his Government will ensure that they benefit from available opportunities and pointed out that a long-term plan is in place for the development of the region. The Head of State, who spent Friday night in the community, is on a three-day visit to the region.
