Guyana: President Irfaan Ali announces resilient, sustainable food system for farming community
Guyana: President Dr Irfaan Ali announced that the Government would be working along with the farming community of Laluni on the Soesdyke-Linden Highway to develop a resilient and sustainable food system and expand national production.
This, he explained, is aimed at making the community an agriculture hub. The President made the announcement while delivering remarks at the community’s annual Heritage Month Funday.
The Head of State also told residents that the first phase of work on their access road had been awarded to the tune of $50m. When this is completed, the second phase will commence and will be done in collaboration with the community.
“Today, I want to use this opportunity to commit to all of you our continued hard work, support and collaboration as we build a more sustainable community.”
President Dr Irfaan Ali inspected ongoing emergency repairs to the Demerara Harbour Bridge. During retraction this morning, two tugs and a sand barge collided with the bridge, causing damage to Span 9.
President Ali is joined by the Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Deodat Indar, the contractor and staff of the Demerara Harbour Bridge.
President Irfaan Ali today remembered the late Bibi Safora Shadick as an “incredible woman” who has made extraordinary contributions across many fields in Guyana.
The Head of State said that the former teacher, attorney at law, Government Minister and GECOM Commissioner played her part in the upliftment and development of humanity, one of the greatest contributions we can all do well to emulate.
The President was one of several speakers who reflected on the recently passed official at a memorial ceremony held today at the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO), Thomas Lands.
Attorney General and the Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall; the Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Nigel Dharamlall; Director of Public Prosecutions, Mrs Shalimar Ali-Hack; Members of Parliament, the legal fraternity, family and friends were also in attendance.
The memorial service included recitations of the Quran and reflections on the achievements, service and wise counsel of the late Bibi Safora Shadick.
