Guyana: President Dr. Irfaan Ali extended the wishes and greetings to the entire Muslim community on the holy month of Ramadan. On Sunday, April 3, 2022, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali and First Lady Arya Ali spent the first Iftar of Ramadan with a number of children at State House.

Iftar is the meal with which Muslims end their daily fast, at sunset, in the month of Ramadan.

President of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana on the occasion of Ramadan 2022, Dr. Irfaan Alis issued a statement and also outlined the significance and meaning of the festival.

Irfaan Ali extends Ramadan Mubarak greetings to the entire Islamic community. Outlining the meaning of Ramadan, the President of Guyana noted, “Ramadan, the holiest month in the Islamic calendar, invites us to closer intimacy with our Creator and with our fellow Brothers and Sisters. Muslims observe the Holy Month with fasting, prayers, and charity. Through these acts of spiritual piety, we grow closer to God and to one another.”

He further asserted that Ramadan is also a time for everyone to reflect on the great gifts the Creator has bestowed upon everyone and use those gifts for the upliftment and for the common good of all of humanity.

“We can all deploy that which we possess for the betterment of ourselves, our families, and all of humanity. We are called to Kindness,” underscored the president.

While highlighting the wording of the Holy Quran, President Ali stated that the Holy Quran said that “So woe to those who pray but are regardless of their prayer, those who make a show of these dees. And withhold simple assistance.”

About Kindness, President Ali affirmed that Kindness is a virtue. All of them have it within to be generous, especially to those within the communities who are in need. If people are indeed to be the keepers of the Brothers and Sisters, let’s use what they have to help those who are in need.

He said, “As we celebrate Ramadan 2022, let us do our bit to the upliftment of humanity in sharing the blessings we have received. And even for those who are not in the position to share materially or financially but you are in the position to share physically with your strength, your character, expressing Kindness to fellow humans, doing something positive for the environment, helping in some way in the upliftment of our communities and country- that too is an important part of giving.

President Ali further extended a greeting to everyone and added that Ramadan Mubarak to all! And he prayed and hoped that the fast, and all good deeds and work that everyone will do doing this month resound to the benefit of the families, country, and all of humanity.
