Guyana PM urges workers to get COVID-19 vaccine

The Prime Minister of Guyana island - Mark Philips, has made a special request to the workers across the island to get themselves inoculated against the COVID-19 mutant.

Guyana: The Prime Minister of Guyana island – Mark Philips, has made a special request to the workers across the island to get themselves inoculated against the COVID-19 mutant.

PM Philips stated that “By taking the dose of coronavirus vaccine as soon as possible, you would not only guard yourself but your loved ones also.
Although COVID-19 vaccination is not mandatory, it has been proven as the best practice in the fight against this novel disease.”

He added that, unfortunately, many Guyanese are still dying even when the COVID-19 vaccines are made available to them, and it is equally essential that private-sector employees protect themselves also by taking the COVID-19 vaccine.

PM Philips further informed that around 45.4% of the Guyanese population had received at least one dose of their COVID-19 vaccine, and about 18.1% of adults of the nation are fully vaccinated against the mutant, and these figures are expected to go up as people are coming forward to take their final dose of the vaccine.

“Vaccinating the Guyanese population would save lives, and it continues my government’s number one priority in these trying times. As our government struggles to achieve herd immunity within the quickest possible time, it is important that more people come forward and get immunised against the coronavirus,” PM Philips added.

Following the statement, he encouraged the citizens to take the guidance of the professionals within the Ministry of Health and asked them not to get affected by fear or rumours arising from anti-vaccination campaigns.

The prime minister further informed by taking his dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, he has done his civic duty to protect himself and others as well.

He added that the government would continue to try their utmost to assure that the COVID-19 vaccines are available to the country’s entire population. Despite this, the PM also ensured the government’s assistance in the time of crisis to the citizens.

Concluding his statement, he stated, “As we continue to take our nation forward, I urge you to play your part and get vaccinated against this deadly virus.
