Guyana: Ministry of Health of Guyana, together with Miracle Feet, hosts an inaugural workshop on clubfoot treatment. This morning at the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre, the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with North Carolina-based institute Miracle Feet, launched a two- days workshop that will train medical professionals on the identification and treatment of clubfoot in children, with emphasis placed on medical personnel working in the hinterland regions.

This activity was made possible through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Ministry of Health and Miracle Feet that will facilitate this and similar activities over a three (3) years period.

In his remarks, Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony said that the focus of this training is to better meet the needs of persons living in the hinterland regions. Dr Anthony believes that persons living away from the coastland are often unable to seek the medical attention needed to deal with the condition in infants, thus causing clubfoot to go undiagnosed and untreated, resulting in more adults living with the defect.

Felipe, the Director of the Latin American branch of Miracle Feet, expressed his enthusiasm to be apart of this new journey and added that the treatment of clubfoot is very important in ensuring that persons live a normal, healthy and happy life.

Also present at this morning’s activity, were Dr Telmo Tapia, Medical Training Advisor at Miracle Feet; Johanssel Gonzalez, Program Officer at Miracle Feet, along with other medical personnel.
