Guyana launches Board of Industrial Training programmes for residents of Linden
Guyana: Residents of Linden, young, old, employed, and retired, were all placed into the Board of Industrial Training (BIT), a technical and vocational programme aimed at promoting national development.
Eight programmes, namely Welding and Fabrication, Electrical Installation, General Building Construction, Furniture Making, Garment Construction and Block Making was, launched on Monday, July 18, 2022, at the Linden Technical Institute by Joseph Hamilton, Minister of Labour, accompanied by Senior Technical Officer, with responsibility for Region Ten, Leon Greaves and Technical Officer, Tenesha Dennis.
Residents from communities such as Wisroc, Block 22, One Mile Extension, Canvas City, Amelia’s Ward, Half Mile, 58 Miles and 47 Miles will be trained in the various programmes, with a duration between four to six months at various training facilities across the region.
At the orientation session, Minister Hamilton and the team engaged the gathering, informing them of the importance of completing the training offered to them that will pave the path to economic development for themselves, their families, and their communities.
A similar exercise was carried out in region six, offering Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes of the bit to approximately 300 residents.
Earlier, the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Department of the Ministry of Labour, concluded another batch of Joint Workplace Safety and Health Committee training with Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation ( GPHC).
The training was facilitated by Senior OSH Officer, Roydon Croal, assisted by Mrs. Marsha Jacobs, also of the OSH department.
The participants expressed their gratitude to the Ministry of Labour for facilitating the session, which will assist in tightening the grip on safety in every workplaces in Guyana.
The training was held at the GPHC’s Multipurpose Room Georgetown.
