Guyana hosts third Quarter Senior Nurses Statutory Meeting
Guyana: On Monday September 19, Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony attended the Third Quarter Senior Nurses Statutory Meeting held at the Grand Coastal Hotel.
The meeting which saw the participation of over 40 Nurse Managers and Matrons was held with the objective of teaching nurse leaders to effectively supervise and manage institutions; assisting them to identify actual and potential challenges and finding solutions. This is expected to better their management skills and increase patient outcome.
Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony during his remarks, stated that monitoring should be done among nurses to ensure that quality services are provided within the various hospitals.
He explained that there is a need to address how to keep persons in the nursing profession up to date with modern clinical practices. This the Minister stated will help to boost the health system in Guyana.
“In each Region, we have to work to make sure that continuing nursing education is offered and available to nurses within their respective Regions. For you to become a registered nurse it is compulsory that you undertake continuing nursing education which is now apart of the law,” Dr Anthony said.
In addition, the Minister highlighted the need to provide training and recruitment to improve the quality of health care delivery for all Guyanese.
Present at the meeting were, Dr Narine Singh, the Cheif Medical Officer (CMO) attached to the Ministry of Health, Nalini Das-Sutton, Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), Bhagpattie Ramnarine, the Deputy Chief Nursing Officer (DCNO), and other officials.
