Guyana hosts grand fun day for children at East Ruimveldt Community Centre
Guyana: A team from the Ministry of Labour placed smiles on the faces of children through a grand fun day activity held at the East Ruimveldt Community Centre on Monday night.
The children participated in face painting, trampoline and an exciting kite flying competition, followed by a luncheon. Permanent Secretary of the Labour Ministry, Bisham Kuppen and Juan Edghill, Minister of Public Works, attended the activity, where they distributed kites and interacted with families.
One parent who took her children to the activity said the initiative is a meaningful one and caters to families with fun activities for the children residing in surrounding communities.
“The children are out and happy, I can see the excitement on their faces, and I cannot say I am not excited too; I will be getting my face painted right after my daughter finish hers. I thank the Ministry of Labour for this kind gesture; we were welcomed with not only kites but a well-prepared venue for us to sit with our children and be entertained,” the parent highlighted.
Joseph Hamilton, Minister of Labour, who was unable to attend the activity, extended warm greetings to the children and residents. The minister was at the time on official duty in Region Seven.
A team comprising of Senior Occupational Safety and Health Officer, Ministry of Labour, Roydon Croal, Safety Inspector Irvine London, and Safety Assistant of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission, Sergio Phillander, commenced a Safety Outreach to several mining landings, sites and construction sites in Region 7 on April 19, 2022.
During the outreach, the officers interacted with Christian Peterson, Operations Manager of Sinergy Guyana, who indicated that the company commenced construction of their office and maintenance of road networks commencing from Itabali.
The Officers spoke with several miners, after which safety posters and brochures were distributed at mining landings at Itabli and Oko/ Sandhills.
