Guyana: President Dr Irfaan Ali, Arya Ali and their son, Zayd, ushered in the New Year by witnessing the colourful and vibrant annual fireworks display at Camp Ayanganna last night.
A number of other Government Ministers, including Prime Minister, Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips and Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall were also at the event.
Prior to that, President Ali and made a brief stop at Palm Court for its annual old year’s night celebrations.
President Dr Irfaan Ali reflected on the determination, character and understanding of Guyanese throughout 2022, during brief remarks at the Lifespring Ministries’ Old Year’s Night Service in Chateau Margot last evening.
The Head of State said that though the world faced many issues such as rising inflation, a food and climate crisis, and the Covid-19 pandemic, Guyanese were able to find ways to rise above the challenges.
“What we have is a country that has been able to stay strong, stable, and provide for its people. A country that has been able to withstand so many shocks so many difficulties. And we did this because of our people, the strength of our people, the character of our people, the patience of our people, the understanding of our people.”
The President also stated that his Government understands the importance of the religious community in the spiritual and moral upliftment of the country.
“I leave today with my own silent prayer that the lives of every Guyanese will only get better, that the life of every member of the human family globally will only get better. And as you preach pastor, is it my hope that the word peace will find true meaning in our hearts, homes, community, and our country.”
President Irfaan Ali has arrived in Brasilia, the capital of the Federative Republic of Brazil, to attend the Inauguration Ceremonies of President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Vice President-elect Geraldo José Rodrigues Alckmin Filho.
The Inauguration is set to take place later today at the Planalto Palace and Itamaraty Palace, respectively. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Honourable Hugh Todd, is accompanying President Ali.
