Guyana: Minister of Labour, Joseph Hamilton visited a group of young persons between the ages of six to sixteen, who are participating in a Table Tennis programme, facilitated by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, National Sports Commission under the theme,” Breaking Down Barriers with Table Tennis Balls in a Fun Way”.

Minister Hamilton participated in this afternoon’s competition and took some pictures with the junior winners, Jayden Christian, and Thalia Williams, representing St. John Baptiste Primary School in Bartica.

After the kodak moment, the minister interacted with the young gathering and commended them for their participation and dedication aimed to promote their development.

Minister Hamilton engaged Bartica Potaro Women’s Empowerment Group| The women of the group were engaged by the Minister on Friday, May 13, 2022, with the aim to implementing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes.

The women were told by the minister that his ministry, through the Board of Industrial Training (BIT) continuous efforts will be made to secure women’s growth.

“The goal is to ensure women receive the support needed to become their own boss and not just pursue courses such as, Cosmetology but they must challenge themselves to go for courses that will add to the Oil and Gas Sector, Agriculture, Mining and Information Technology,” the Minister explained.

Mayor of Bartica, Mr. Gifford Marshall and Police Commander for the Region Seven, Mr. Dion Moore were called upon by the Minister to build a network to gather information regarding skills training that are in demand in communities within the region. This way, the minister stated it will help to offer young persons, single mothers, senior citizens, and retirees development needed to build them financially and socially.

After the meeting, the minister was interviewed on Radio Bartica, 95.1 FM, where he highlighted the purpose of his visit to the region and the works done by the bit to deliver skills training for persons in the region, that will be carried out at a government.
