Guyana: President Irfaan Ali and First Lady Arya Ali hosted a grand cultural and religious event last evening to usher in Diwali 2022.
Hundreds of guests joined the first family along the Avenue on Main Street, including members of the Government and the Diplomatic Corps, as well as members of the public and special guests.
President Ali said that as Guyanese prepare to celebrate Diwali in our homes and our communities, and among families, it is important that we come together as a community.
“This evening … it’s not about speeches; it’s just us coming out on the avenue once again to celebrate who we are as a people.”
He also called for reflections and a recommitment to improving the circumstances of our brothers and sisters.
“On behalf of the Government of Guyana, the Cabinet, my family and I, we would like to wish everyone a Happy Diwali.”
The event featured rich cultural presentations commemorating the festival of lights.
Diwali 2022 will be celebrated on October 24.

In keeping with the observance of Diwali on Monday October 24, staffers of the Ministry of Finance today took part in a ‘One Guyana’ inter-departmental Rangoli competition hosted by Senior Finance Minister Dr. Ashni K. Singh,at the Ministry of Finance.
Prime Minister, Mark Phillips was joined by the Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister, Kwame McCoy and other OPM staff this morning for ceremonial photos in observance of Diwali.
Diwali presents the opportunity for persons to pay attention to what they do as individuals to promote, peace, brotherhood and prosperity. The lighting of the Diya should not only be seen as illuminating the physical environment but also be interpreted as the removal of darkness within our lives.
