Guyana: 57-year-old Raymond Mohamed was on Thursday sentenced to four months in prison for stealing rearview mirrors from a vehicle. Mohamed is a known drug addict in the city and is no stranger to lawmen.
The court heard that on August 23, 2022 at Thomas Lands, he allegedly stole two rearview mirrors valued $80,000 property of Monica Sharma.
He was also charged with allegedly stealing two rear view mirrors for a vehicle valuing $30,000 property of Cash City Inc. He pleaded guilty
On the same day, the Police department of Guyana found the suspects in the robbery case of the Kuru Kururu Village, Soesdyke/Linden Highway. Two suspects were identified as 31-year-old labourers of Kuru Kururu Sandpit and 26-year-old labourers of Kuru Kururu.
Acting on information received, a party of police ranks conducted a cordon and search exercise at Kuru Kururu Village Soesdyke/Linden Highway and several houses were searched for suspects involved in the spate of robberies which occurred between 2022-08-20 to 2022-08-23.
At the home of one of the suspects, one Guyana Defence Force (GDF) camouflage shirt was found in a haversack and when asked he claimed he got if from a relative.
The suspect was also fingered as one of the perpetrators who committed the robbery on Tenesha Fordyce which occured at Hillfoot, Soesdyke on 2022-08-22.
He subsequently led the ranks to the home of a 26-year-old labourer also of Kuru Kururu, who was found hiding in a suitcase under his parents’ bed.
A search was conducted on the said premises and one camouflage bullet proof vest containing armoured plate was found in his bedroom.
Based on the description given to the police, the 26-year-old labourer is suspected to be the perpetrator who hired the driver of motor car #HD 514 (a Green Ice taxi) from Georgetown to Soesdyke then robbed him.
He is also suspected to be the accomplice in Tenesha Fordyce’s robbery at Hillfoot Soesdyke.
Police stated that further investigation is ongoing.
