Guadeloupe: The passage of Tropical Storm FIONA created heavy flooding and rainfall, and at least one person has been declared dead in Guadeloupe. A house was washed away by strong flood waters in Basse-Terre, the capital of the country, with one occupant still inside.
The victim is said to have been swept away with his house when the river flooded. Photos and videos on social media showed extensive flooding and damage in Guadeloupe, with homes and bridges affected.
Reports said the emergency services received more than 600 calls and carried out 130 interventions.
TS Fiona is expected to develop into a hurricane this weekend with Hurricane Watches in effect for the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico
Fiona will bring Hurricane conditions to Puerto Rico on Sunday, and the U.S. Virgin Islands tonight.
Tropical storm conditions are spreading across the U.S. and British Virgin Islands and will spread across Puerto Rico overnight. Tropical storm conditions are expected to reach the Dominican Republic by late Sunday.
Heavy rains from Fiona will then spread west to the Dominican Republic Sunday, and the Turks and Caicos Monday night. Heavy rainfall amounts are expected to produce life-threatening flash floods and urban flooding, along with mudslides in areas of higher terrain, especially across portions of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
Fiona is then forecast to strengthen after moving away from Puerto Rico and past the Dominican Republic on Monday, and interests in the Turks
and Caicos Islands and the southeastern Bahamas should continue to monitor forecasts for the storm.
Again the model trends continue to keep Fiona away from Florida, but they will continue to monitor any coastal concerns in Central Florida. People are asked to remain vigilant as Flood watch is still in effect across the Caribbean nations.
However, the Tropical Watch has been discontinued for Dominica, St Kitts and Nevis and Antigua and Barbuda. FIONA is expected to turn into Category 2 Hurricanes near the countries the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Montserrat and the Dominican Republic.
