The Gros Islet Under 19 Team 2 Began the 2023 Saint Lucia National Cricket Association/ Sandals Plate Under 19 Cricket Tournament With a Comfortable 83 Run Victory Over Mabouya Valley on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at the Gros Islet Playing Field.

Castries, Saint Lucia: The Gros Islet Under 19 Team 2 Began the 2023 Saint Lucia National Cricket Association/ Sandals Plate Under 19 Cricket Tournament With a Comfortable 83 Run Victory Over Mabouya Valley on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at the Gros Islet Playing Field.

Gros Islet winning the toss and batting first in a game reduced to 40 overs a side due to rain made 174 all out in 32.2 overs with Roystan Fanis making 34, Kaylum Thomas 32 and captain Isaiah Jones 30.

Bowling for Mabouya Valley, Brent Edward 4 for 29 in 8 overs, Mcwayne Vidal 3 for 39 in 7.2 overs, Armani Agdomar 2 for 42 in 8 overs and 1 wicket to Cleanus Jules.

In response, Gros Islet lead by a 5 wicket haul, including a ‘hat trick’, from leg spinner captain ISAIAH JONES restricted Mabouya Valley to 91 for 9 in 16.4 overs.

The main contributors with the bat for Mabouya Valley were, Armani Agdomar with 22 and Neon Deterville 19. The wicket takers for Gros Islet were, captain Isaiah Jones with 5 for 23 in 4.4 overs and 1 wicket each to Renee Jones and Kaylum Thomas.

RESULT: GROS ISLET TEAM #2 DEFEATED MABOUYA VALLEY BY 83 RUNS

The Saturday morning Northern Cluster Grassroots Cricket Development Program continued on February 18, 2023 with yet another exciting and intense session.

The programme took the following format:

* Prayers/Welcome

* Warm up activities

* Catching/Fielding drills and exercises

* Batting drills

* Younger participants ages 11 years and below engaged in fielding drills( high catches with hard ball)

* Also running between the wickets with batting pads.

The coaches who facilitated the training session were Malika Edward and Allian Asby. Logistical support was conducted by Roseline Preville and Afra Forde.

The Northern Cluster Grassroots/ Ministry of Youth Development and Sports/ Gros Islet Community After-school Cricket Training Program continued on Friday, February 17, 2023 with a Beach Recovery Session at the Reduit Beach.Â
