Grenada: The Prime Minister of the Grenada island – Dr Keith Mitchell, has lauded the perceptible growth in the service level provided in the island’s hospitals and promised to honour the four per cent salary increase while encouraging the religious leaders to be partners in Grenada’s COVID-19 vaccination programme.

PM further spoke against the backdrop of the separation of hospitals and community services from the general health portfolio and stated that the move was transformational and innovative and has generated positive outcomes.”

Following the statement, he added, ”There is evidence of notable change, and I must compliment you for that. We are far from being perfect, but in reality, people are happy to see the change as it shows that the government is listening to their criticisms. We should continue to work on the deficiencies that exist and bring about further improvements.”

“I guarantee you that the government would continue to invest in tremendous resources to improve the health services in Grenada, but we must also continue to work together to bring about further change.”

PM Mitchell also acknowledged Delma Thomas – minister for hospital and community services, and senior officers within the ministry, who felt responsible for the hospital and community services portfolio six months ago, and he also thanked the team for their presentation of dedicated service, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.”

Being concerned about the COVID-19 vaccination programme, PM Mitchell urged greater support from health professionals and asserted, ”The voices of professionals would furnish greater credibility to the importance of this as means of returning to normal.”

PM Mitchell further applauded religious leaders for their responses to the COVID-19 pandemic and expressed his desire to see more church leaders to actively engage in encouraging the population to get their dose of vaccine.

On this, he cited, “‘I want you to encourage the people and use your public platforms to positively inspire people of Grenada. You all are well-respected in the community and everybody values your opinion. Therefore, there is an important role you can play in encouraging the population of Grenada to get vaccinated. We are working towards herd immunity but the longer we take to achieve that the longer we would take to get back to normal life.”
