Grenada: Grenada secured three silver medals at the end of Day two of the CARIFTA Games, which are taking place in the Bahamas. The government applauded their athletes and shared glimpses of the matches at the tournament.
The government of Grenada took to Facebook to share glimpses of the CARIFTA Games and noted, “Three Silver Medals for team Grenada at the end of Day two of the Carifta Games Nassau, Bahamas, as Ejay George ran a well-executed and strategized three thousand meter race in the boys U-17 category.”
Ejay’s silver as followed by the 4×100 relay U-17 boys where Mikael Redhead, Aidan McIntosh Nathan Hillarie and Ethan Sam proved that they are just as competitive as their rivals.
At the end of the 4X100 M relay Grenada crossed the finish line third however a protest was launched against team Jamaica who received the baton outside of the Zone on the third leg, and after review, the Silver medal was awarded to Grenada.
The third Silver medal came in the 4×4 mixed relay where Cheffonia Houston, Jayden Phillip, Taigon Peterkin, and Jamara Patterson gave the hundreds that were assembled at the stadium an athletic show to remember it was indeed the race of the day.
Grenada Medal count now stand at five three Silver and two bronze. On the final day of competition will see participation in the final of 800 m for U-17 and U-20 boys, the 200m and the 4X400 meters relay.
Grenada received its first medal of the day in the Javelin Under 20 boys, during the morning session of day two of the 50th CARIFTA games on Saturday April 8th. Cameron Thomas place third with a distance of 60.12M. Bahamas place 1st with a distance 64.07, while Trinidad placed 2nd with 61.58m.
CARIFTA Games Medal Standings are as follows:
- 1st – Jamaica – 2 gold, 1 bronze
- 2nd – Bahamas – 1 gold, 1 bronze
- 3rd – Trinidad – 2 silver
- 4th – BVI – 1 silver
- 5th – Grenada – 1 bronze
This year’s game features more than 600 athletes from 28 countries competing. The athletes of Grenada are showing up at almost every event on the schedule of the Carifta Games 2023 in the Bahamas.
