Grenada: Team B (led by Divonie Joseph) over Team A (led by Kirtsen Murray) secured victory in the first match of the best of the best cricket series. The team led by Joseph won the toss and batter first in the toss in a match reduced to 45 overs per side.
24 of the top Under 19 Cricketers will participate in the Best vs Best series in preparation for the Windwards U19 tournament. The first of the two matches were played on Saturday, March 25 at the Beausejour playing field and the second will be played one week later at a venue to be determined.
Joseph (St. Patrick) shared a 113 run partnership for the 3rd wicket with Justin John (St. George) which helped their team post 271 for 8 from their 45 overs. John topped scored with 73 unbeaten and Joseph scored 70. Enoch Toussaint (St. George) was the leading wicket taker finishing with 3-33 and 2 wickets went to his new ball partner Kirtsen Murray (St. David) who picked up 2-44.
Team A, in search of 272 for victory, lost wickets regularly and was eventually bowled out for 189 in the 35th over, 82 runs short of their target. Jerel Jeremiah (St. Andrew) 43, Kervin Gangadeen (St. Mark) 37 and Rickel Sylvester (St. David) 30 were the only batsmen to put up much resistance.
The wickets were shared among Team B bowlers with Kirt Murray (St. David) picking up three wickets and two a piece for Deshawn Juerakhan (St. Mark) and Marlon Phillip (St. Patrick). The final match in the series will be played in a week’s time at a venue to be determined.
