Grenada: The St John’s River Flood Mitigation Project in Grenada are about 70 per cent complete ahead of the 2022 rainy season. The contractor of sunrise construction company limited stated that the work had also begun on packages one and two by the creative designs construction company. 

GIS went to the river road and spoke with residents about the work the government is doing to ease the4 burden of flow that has plagued the area for years.

He noted, “I experienced telephone poles were broken, and Grenada Carlos come back and put telephone poles around the place, so how important some people may think that the wall is a bit high and as per experience how important do you see it well we have to see what’s going on because I mean to say the world is true, but we have to do for beneficial for the people around”.

Another resident Quincy Jones is one of the young residents of over road who operated a business along the riverbank in the vicinity of package 2. 

Jones said that it is a project he welcomes as it will bring added benefits to him and residents; the young businessman says growing up in river road, he has witnessed on a few occasions the destructive force of water through severe flooding. 

“The project is a good project you know from the river coming our hamburger business you have known it’s not really bad as it is a good development because apparently if we have to move the government will have to develop place a little better because you have more space and as you see the business on them are wrong here most likely is large business. I just hope even though they move the business my business especially they put it back in a more year or better. 

The river flood mitigation project is divided into seven packages. Four of the packages have already been tended out. 

  • Package one: It focuses on the mouth of the Shenzhen river at Green Bridge Upstream at the humpback bridge. 
  • Package two: Both bridges named humbucker and Purcell’s lumber have been contracted to creative designs. 
  • Package three and Package four of the project begin at the post office on river road upstream to stills bridge. Package three and four have been warded to survive construction companies during the government’s post-cabinet.Â
