Grenada: On the heels of the signing of the air service contract the government of Grenada signed another major agreement on Thursday, June 9, 2022, with Royal Caribbean Group which is known as the second-largest cruise brand in the world.
Both the parties signed an MoU to provide opportunities for Grenadians to gain employment aboard the ship. The Royal Caribbean is the first cruise line to be welcomed on the show’s Sea Grenada after the pandemic.
Regional Vice President of government relations- Caribbean Paul Gravel said that the signing is a positive step for the tourism sector in Grenada. She noted,” At Royal Caribbean group, we understand how challenging it has been to rebound from the loss of tourism and the downturn in the economy and there’s no better way to address the impacts to the Grenada economy than by finding mutually beneficial job fulfillment and job growth opportunities for Royal Caribbean and Grenada residents respectively.”
She said that as they continue to gain momentum emergent from the pandemic and secure the staffing levels that will enable them to continue to deliver to their guest’s vacation memories that last a lifetime.
“We knew that the Caribbean region build on a talented pool of seafarers who are ambassadors and representatives of a region that so many of our guests love. This creates a special opportunity to expand our relationship with the wonderful people of Grenada,” she added.
Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation Dr Clarice Modeste Curwen is happy for any opportunity that provides more employment Opportunities for Grenadines.
She said that she highly appreciated the staff of the Ministry of Tourism and the partnership that Royal Caribbean has forged with them over the years and continues to do to the point where they are now at this game-changing point good things are going to happen for human resources.
Tourism Minister emphasized,” In Grenada, it’s one thing to have the taxi men and the persons at the various sites, attraction sites and so on benefits, but it’s another to have our own people being able to wok on your cruise lines of which you have excelled in the industry and so not only do so they get jobs that are readily available but they get the experience of their life.”
Further, she stated that even they sign GTA, Ministry of Tourism as they are working to give visitors and others the experience of the life when they touch down in Grenada and she said that she knows people will not regret the vision they have for their locals working on the cruise ships is not far-fetched and the numbers going the standard, the qualities and the technical expertise growing and she knew some of the persons who would have worked in the industry would have come back years later on and set up the business to improve it one this side of the industry.
