Grenada police arrested 9 men & 2 teens for stealing marijuana

The Grenada police have charged and arrested nine people with two teenagers for stealing marijuana, estimated worth - $750,000 EC from the police station.

Grenada: The Grenada police have charged and arrested nine people with two teenagers for stealing marijuana, estimated worth – $750,000 EC from the police station.

This marijuana was to be used as an evidence in ongoing court matters from the police station in the northern parish of Saint Patrick.

Police officials have stated that “The 9 men were arrested and charged over the last weekend. They appeared in the court yesterday.”

The accused are identified as – Kiman and Kimani Alexander, Ron and Ronni Staniscluas who were granted bail on 17 May 2021 at the sum of – $50,000 dollars each. Carlos Williams, Marvin Jeremiah and Travis Fullerton were granted bail at the sum of – $120,000 dollar each.

Police officials further informed that these accused also have to report to a police station every day between 6 am and 5 pm. They have to hand over all travel documents.

All the accused have to return to the court on May 26th,2021. According to a statement given by the Community Relations Department, the police officers who are assigned duty in the station noticed the missing of the drug over a time period and took immediate and remedial action against the stealing.

It says as a result, investigations revealed that individuals trawled out marijuana from the rear end of the building due to the structural deficiencies in the station.

In the month of March, a member of the Grenada Marijuana Decriminalisation Committee confirmed introduced legislation that would decriminalize the use of marijuana prior to the Cabinet of Ministers for discussion to examine if a public consultation should be held.

According to the reports in the past three years, 59.52 per cent of crimes have been increased in Grenada. Grenada crime rate and statistics for – 2017 was 10.82, with an increase of 9.49 per cent from 2016.
