Grenada: PM Dickon Mitchell attends his first CARICOM regular meeting in Suriname

Prime Minister of Grenada-Dickon Mitchell has been greeted by other Caribbean leaders after his arrival in Barbados for his connecting flight to Suriname to attend the 43rd Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM.

Grenada: Prime Minister of Grenada-Dickon Mitchell has been greeted by other Caribbean leaders after his arrival in Barbados for his connecting flight to Suriname to attend the 43rd Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM.

Through his social media, Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell stated that CARICOM prime minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda, Ralph Gonsalves of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Phillip J. Pierre of St. Lucia. Mia Amor Mottley of Barbados. The photo was taken en route to his first CARICOM Heads of Government Conference in Suriname.

The 43rd Meeting of the CARICOM Conference of Heads of Government has been held in Paramaribo, the Republic of Suriname, from July 3 to July 5, 2022.

Heads of Governments will discuss topics which include “Advancing the CARICOM Agri-Food systems agenda, Climate Finance, Security issues and updates on Covid-19 and emerging health issues”.

Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell would also take part in a delegation meeting and represent Grenada. He was accompanied by Joseph Andall, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Export Development; Arley Gill, Ambassador for CARICOM Affairs; Che Phillip, Foreign Service Officer and Orlando Romain, to provide public relations support.

Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell will take part in several bilateral meetings and will return to the country on July 6, 2022. 

Lennox Andrews, Minister for Economic Development, Planning, Tourism and ICT, Creative Economy, Agriculture and Lands, Fisheries and Cooperatives, will be served as Acting Prime Minister in the absence of Dickon Mitchell.

While expressing pleasure, PM Mitchell noted, “I am looking forward to a very productive and informative engagement with my fellow CARICOM leaders.” 

Among other issues, we shall be discussing and making decisions on the need for more investment in agriculture and agro-industries; the security of our citizens; regional economic cooperation; climate change, adaptation and mitigation; and the implementation of our decisions.

“May we together improve the quality of the lives of the people of Petite Martinique, Carriacou and Grenada, and of the people of the Caribbean Community,” he added.
