Grenada's Lindon Victor has earned himself a wild card into the 2023 World Championships. This after winning the 2022 World Athletics Combined Events Tour, Men's Decathlon in Talence recently.

Grenada: Grenada’s Lindon Victor has earned himself a wild card into the 2023 World Championships. This after winning the 2022 World Athletics Combined Events Tour, Men’s Decathlon in Talence recently.

He now joins Anderson Peters (Javelin World Champion) and Kirani James (400m Diamond League Champion) with wild card bids. The Combined Events Tour, which this year replaced the former Combined Events Challenge, takes athletes’ best three marks across the series and converts them into performance scores (as also used by the world rankings system).

Winners of the Combined Events Tour receive a wildcard entry for the World Athletics Championships Budapest 2023, as well as a US$30,000 bonus. The top five at the end of the season are:

Further, the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture outlined the feature of the day: Albert Joseph, Senior Athletics Coach- Ministry of Youth, Sports & Culture. Coach Albert Joseph, in 2015, received the British Empire Medal (BEM) award, for services associated with Sports and Community.

He was instrumental in discovering Kirani James, Grenada’s Olympic Star, and coaching World Junior Bronze 200m Janelle Redhead.

The Senior Athletic Coach, now heads the discipline, at the Ministry of Youth, Sports & Culture.

Coach Joseph says the focus is now on the upcoming National Cross Country Championship, which begins on October 8th. Three (3) preliminary races, will be held on the 8th, 15th, and 22nd. All races begin at 3 pm.

It will be followed by the final on November 4th at Golf Course, St. George. The Senior Athletic Coach says he would like to see more athletes produced, to compete at the National, Regional and International levels. His favorite quote “The work won’t do itself, you have to do it yourself”.
