Grenada: Grenadian Kirani James won Men’s 400 metres at the Wanda Diamond League for fourth time in career. With the season best 44.30, Olympic star shined bright in the league, hosted by Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon.

He has a lot of love for Hayward Field after capturing world silver for Grenada last year in Oregon. James, 31, secured the Diamond League trophy for the fourth time while capturing the title in 2011, 2015 and 2022.

The second place was secured by American Quincy Hall with 44.44s, while Vernon Norwood claimed 3rd place in 44.61 seconds.

The Ministry of Sports and the government of Grenada extended best wishes to Kirani James on his victory. In a release, the OPM stated,” We extend heartfelt congratulations to our Grenadian hero, Kirani James on his outstanding victory as the 2023 Diamond League men’s 400m Champion.”

James’ dedication to his craft, unmatched skill, and unwavering determination have once again placed himself and Grenada at the forefront of world athletics.

“This achievement not only reflects Kirani’s extraordinary talent but also showcases the indomitable spirit of our nation. Kirani, your relentless pursuit of excellence is an inspiration to us all,”said the government.

It said, ”As you continue your journey, remember that you have the full support and admiration of Grenada. We eagerly anticipate your future triumphs on the global stage. Keep making our nation proud, Kirani James.”

Light on Career achievements of Kirani James

Kirani James is a three-time Olympic medalist, and three-time World Championship medalist. The Diamond League victory has added another achievement in the pocket of the athlete. He is the most celebrated Grenadian 400m Olympian and nicknamed the “Jaguar”.

He’s a former Olympic and world champion and has returned very strong after fighting graves’ disease in 2019. It’s also a great come back from the world championships last month when he was disqualified in the final for lane infringement.

In 2022, he also entered into the World Championships as the third-fastest man after finishing 2nd place in the World Athletics Championships.

Kirani James secured Gold in 2012, Silver in 2016 and Bronze in 2021 in the last three Olympics. While adding other medals to his collection, James won Gold in 2011, Bronze in 2015 and Silver in 2022 at the World Athletics Championships.
