Caribbean nations such as Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines voiced against the Russian aggression in Ukraine. In addition to that, Belarus has also been bashed by most of the countries. Caribbean nations condemned both countries and declared significant restrictions against them.

Grenada: The military action of the Russian Federation against its neighbouring country-Ukraine has been criticised by most of the countries across the globe. Caribbean countries also stood by the UK and the EU and voted in favour of the United Nation resolution against Russian aggression in Ukraine.

Caribbean nations such as Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines voiced against the Russian aggression in Ukraine. In addition to that, Belarus has also been bashed by most of the countries. Caribbean nations condemned both countries and declared significant restrictions against them.

While taking more rigorous steps against Russia, the Caribbean country Grenada have temporarily terminated the Citizenship by Investment Programme for the nationals of Russia and Belarus.

The decision has been made by keeping the security and safety of the international community in mind.

The government of Grenada issued an official statement to informed all the applicants of the CBI programme from Russia and Belarus.

“The government of Grenada has decided to temporarily suspend the acceptance of new applications from Russian and Belarusians for the Citizenship by Investment Programme with immediate effect”, the official statement of Grenada reads.

It further notified that they are continuously and closely monitoring the disturbing events that are occurring in Ukraine and if they find any stability in the situation, will give prior information to the applicants.

Grenada authorities have also clarified that the decision would be applicable to all the citizens of Russia and Belarus, whether they are currently residing in the countries or not.

So, people from the aforementioned countries are not able to take dual citizenship.

Earlier, various other Caribbean nations, including Dominica and St Kitts and Nevis also announced that their CBI units will not accept the applications from the countries mentioned earlier.

Moreover, Prime Minister of Commonwealth of Dominica Dr Rossevelt Skerrit also bashed Russia and said that the country is really disturbed with the military action against the people of Ukraine.

St Kitts and Nevis also imposed various sanctions against Russia and Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris also stressed the sovereignty of any country.

Additionally, the Government of Antigua and Barbuda also move on the same path and refused to accept the applications of the CBI programme from Russia and Belarus. It stated that the deteriorative events in Ukraine compel them to suspend the programme from the mentioned jurisdictions.

The statement further added that the due-diligence process witnessed conflicts, which makes it difficult for their CBI unit to provide citizenship to the legitimate candidate.

Moreover, UK High Commissioner to Barbados & Eastern Caribbean, Scott Furssedonn-Wood, applauded the Caribbean for supporting UK and EU and stated that over 141 countries, which includes almost all Eastern Caribbean, backed the United Nations.
