Guyana: The Government of the Caribbean country commenced the community meeting at East Berbice-Corentyneon Monday, April 11, 2022. It is the meetings that have been held at various communities within the Region to give a chance to the residents to raise their concerns.
Minister of Labour Joseph Hamilton and a team from his ministry and the Board of Industrial Training (BIT) visited residents of Boneyard, Port Mourant, Manchester, and Alness, Central Corentyne.
Employees from the Ministries of Agriculture, Education, and Public Works, Regional Administration, Guyana Livestock Development Authority (GLDA), and the Guyana Police Force also accompanied the Labour Minister.
During the meetings, a number of issues were raised, such as the rehabilitation of community centres, drainage, and irrigation, repairs to regional offices, and facelifts to nursery schools, among other much-needed developments.
This provided the minister and team the opportunity to document the resident’s requests, which will be looked at in the near future by Government.
Further, officers from the Labour Ministry Departments, such as Coop’s, Labour, and BIT, dealt with matters relating to assisting residents who are a part of the fishing sector to start up Coop’s Societies. Also persons who were desirous of receiving Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses offered by the bit were given information to empower themselves.
Under the ministry’s mandate to promote capacity building, residents were given the opportunity to seek employment through the Central Recruitment and Manpower Agency (CRMA).
The Cabinet Outreach to the regions throughout Guyana will give citizens of Guyana the opportunity to inform Government Ministers directly on issues affecting them within their communities.
