On Thursday, St Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers Union has confirmed the dismissal of several teachers from their jobs for failing to comply with the government’s vaccination policy.
The union told that around 12 teachers had reported so far of their dismissal notice.
Meanwhile, President of union Oswald Robinson said, “We expect more to come in today, and we are closely observing the situation. However, the commitment is to assist all the members, both vaccinated and unvaccinated.”
Notably, numbers of teachers had indicated that they had not received any salary for December.
The union leader said they might also implement a program to help teachers who have not received a December salary.
The termination letter given to the teacher states that, “The teachers violated the Rule 5 of the Public Health (Public Bodies Special Measures) Rules 2021, and as a result had been deemed absent from duty without leave since November 22, 2021.”
The letter added, “As a result, on behalf of the Public Service Commission, I am required to inform you have to resign from your office with effect from December 7, 2021, in accordance with Regulation 31 of the Public Service Commission Regulation, Chapter 10 of the Laws of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.”
Meanwhile, Oswald Robinson ensured teachers that the union would always support them and fight for their rights.
