Government is working on various projects to stimulate economy: PM Skerrit

Dominica: The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica – Roosevelt Skerrit, this time invited the press members to talk about various issues during the episode of Annou Pale on Sunday.

Tim Durand – the owner of Dominica News Online, Gavin Richards – the sports editor at DBS radio and Mrs Kimani, a news reporter of Kyrie FM, were the guests of the Annou Pale.

On being asked that in terms of the budget what the nation expects in the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, to which the prime minister replied that the COVID-19 pandemic has been in the country for so long, and the government of Dominica has various plans and projects to stimulate the economy.

PM Skerrit also underlined the recently international airport agreement and stated that this agreement plays a crucial role.

Richards then asked that whether the country expects different fiscal announcements this year as last year, the revenues have been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, to which PM Skerrit answered that the government this year would focus on the fundamental issues regarding the revenue generation and it would do its best to stimulate the economy.

With this, the prime minister also informed that the government had seen a steady improvement in the collection of revenues and that the Dominica government is preparing itself for the risks of cruise ships and making all its efforts to make travel on the island less complicated.

The prime minister also outlined that American Airlines is planning to make a test drive to Dominica in order to check the possibility of a direct flight from Miami to Dominica.

PM Skerrit, following the statement, noted that the Dominica government is investing heavily in the agriculture sector to ensure food security.

The Prime Minister also stated that the government is also working in the area of infrastructure and highlighted the working of few projects such as – Roseau enhancement project, housing project, which would focus on the public sector officers.

PM Skerrit then appreciated and thanked the commitment of the US government in providing the COVID-19 vaccines to the Caribbean region.
