Antigua and Barbuda: Chairman of CARICOM and Prime Minister of Antigua & Barbuda Gaston Browne congratulated newly elected PM of St Lucia Phillip J. Pierre through a letter on 28th July 2021.
Pierre lead Saint Lucia party obtained 13 seats out of 17 constituency assemblies of 2021 and sworn as 8th Prime Minister of the St Lucia.
Prime Minister Browne in his letter to St Lucian PM said, “On behalf of the Government and people of Antigua and Barbuda, I extend my sincerest congratulations to you and the members of the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) on your landslide victory at the polls.”
PM Browne in his letter added that people of St Lucia had let their voices be heard and have installed significant confidence in Phillip j. Pierre and his party to navigate the current challenges being faced in his country.
“They have also entrusted you to lend your voice to the discussion and policies that govern the region through institution such as organization of the Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).” Letter added.
CARICOM chairman also looks forward to working with St Lucia PM ahead to strengthen regional development and integration.
Importantly, Antigua and Barbuda & St Lucia have significant relationship for many years, as they share lot of cultural similarities.
Phillip J. Pierre in 1992 his career in active politics began when he contested the general election for the first time in Castries East, losing to the United Workers Party’s Romanus Lansiquot.
Notably, Pierre joined the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) in 1985 and served as the party treasurer from 1986 to 1992.
He has served as Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation and International Financial Services from 1997 to 2000, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Port Services, and Transportation in 2011.
Pierre became Leader of the SLP in the year of 2016 after the resignation of Dr Kenny Anthony at the helm.
