Cayman: Four players represented the Cayman Islands at the FIDE World Youth U16 Chess Olympiad in Eindhoven, Netherlands, 13 – 19 August.

Led by team captain, CICF Director Carlo Lee, the team comprises Luc Sinton, Israel Martin, John-Henry Moore and Anvita Niranjan Patil.

The Cayman team’s participation in this prestigious event holds historical significance as it marks the Cayman Islands’ very first entry in FIDE’s flagship global youth competition.

Although the competition will be tough, with unwavering enthusiasm and a reservoir of potential, the Cayman Islands Youth Olympiad Team is poised to leave a lasting impression.

The players’ determination to engage in this elite tournament speaks volumes about their commitment to advancing the chess scene on the Island and internationally.

Under the expert guidance of CICF Youth Chess Director, National Master Ryan Blackwood, our young players have been diligently preparing for the event at the CICF Masterclass.

This rigorous training not only underscores their dedication but also amplifies their resolve to compete at the international level.

As the national youth team embarks on this remarkable journey, the chess community and the country will rally behind these young pioneers, wishing them success in the global chess arena.

The Cayman Islands is being represented, for the first time, at the World School Teams Chess Championship by our U18 national champion school team from Cayman International School.

The WSTCC is taking place on 3-8 August in Aktau, Kazakhstan. The CIS team secured their first match win today, 3-1 over Mozambique, having narrowly lost their earlier matches 3-1 against teams from Equador, Estonia and South Africa.

Thus far, Owen Franklin is the team’s star performer, having won all four of his games.

The CICF Masterclass programme continued this morning at the George Town Public Library, with CICF President playing a simultaneous exhibition match against 25 students.

The students practiced their skills acquired through the Masterclass programme, and learned lessons for future improvement.
