Football Federation to host One Guyana President’s Cup in November
Guyana: President Irfaan Ali has agreed to collaborate with the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) for the hosting of its inaugural One Guyana President’s Cup, which is scheduled to start on Sunday, November 13 and run until January 1, 2023.
The Head of State met with a number of football stakeholders, including the President of the GFF, Wayne Forde this week at the Office of the President.
He said that the aim of the Government is to promote more sporting activities for young people across the country.
“Football has the power to bring people together and this is the first in a series of initiatives in which the Government plans to work with the GFF to support their ambition to make the game more accessible.”
One Guyana President’s Cup will be an inter-ward competition organised across all 10 Administrative Regions of Guyana and will be conducted in two phases, with the first being an intra-regional straight knockout playoff, followed up by a national inter-regional round-robin championship.
Ten regional teams, comprising 25 of each region’s best footballers, along with a five-member technical staff, will contest the inter-regional round-robin championship.
The One Guyana President’s Cup is scheduled to kick off on Sunday, November 13 with the grand final taking place on January 1st, 2023.
President Irfaan Ali said numerous development works are ongoing in Tucville to enhance the community’s infrastructure and the well-being of the residents.
The Head of State gave this reassurance as he addressed scores of residents during an outreach to the Georgetown community on Wednesday afternoon.
Along with inspecting the work, the President and his delegation also walked through the community for a meet and greet, where he listened to the residents’ concerns and offered solutions.
Accompanying the Head of State were several government Ministers, including the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr and the Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Deodat Indar.
