Fayth Jeffrey named on swim team of Saint Lucia to compete at CARIFTA Games

Castries, Saint Lucia: 13-year-old Fayth Jeffrey, who trains and swims with Pirates Swim Club, has been named on the national CARIFTA swim team of Saint Lucia to compete at the CARIFTA Games from April 6 to 12 in Curacao.

Jeffrey, who attends Harrison College had a spectacular year in the pool last year and she was recognised by the Saint Lucia Aquatic Federation at their Annual Awards of Excellence 2023 ceremony last month. Jeffrey, a Saint Lucian by birth, won the awards for, ‘Junior Swimmer of the Year 2022’, ‘CARIFTA Best Overall Performance of the Year 2022’, ‘Age Group Award 2022 (11-12)’ and ‘IM Stroke Award 2022. 

Jeffrey started this year with impressive performances at the just concluded Long Course Nationals which were held at the Wildey Aquatic Centre. She competed in 13 events and improved her times in nine of these events and won 3 gold medals (100m Breaststroke, 200m Breaststroke and 50m Breaststroke), 4 silver medals (100m Fly, 400m IM, 20m Fly and 200m IM) and one bronze medal in the 50m Fly.

Fayth also improved her time in the time trial for the 100m Freestyle. 

Thirty-Two of the most talented young swimmers on the island, have been named on the national swimming team for the 36th CARIFTA Swimming Championships scheduled for April 6 to 12 in Curaçao.

The team includes Amaya Harrison, Saniya Minnis, Khalia Springer, M’rya Maycock, and Naomi Als who will represent the island in the girls’ 11-12 age group and Nikolai Sisnett, Zachary Burke, Mihael Sobers and Beau Washington who are the boys in the 11-12 age group.

The girls swimming in the 13-14 age group are Jaiya Simmons, Heidi Stoute, Sarah Bartlett, Toria Alleyne, Isabella Mayers, Alisa Roachford and Naraia McClean while the boys in that age group are Victor Ashby, Tariq Greenidge, Brendan Gill and Brennan Watson.

The older girls in the 15-17 age group are Adara Stoddard, Amelia Mayers, Amelie Baker, Heidi Baker, Kenyah Deane, Rebecca Weekes and Toni Walrond and the boys in that age group are Storme Collymore, Ethan Roachford, Amani Millar, Joshua Ross, Aquan Crichlow and Omari Sealy.

Barbados has named Amani Millar, Brennan Watson and Aquan Crichlow to compete in the Open Water Swimming events and the girls for Open Water Swimming are Heidi Stoute and Rebecca Weekes.
