St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis- Dr Terrance Drew, hosted several productive meetings on the sidelines of the Canada-CARICOM Summit in Ottawa from October 17 to 19, 2023. The fruitful discussions during the sessions focused on security cooperation, climate change, and sustainable economic development.

Besides this, the agenda of the meetings also included security concerns and ways to increase the business prospectus between Canada and CARICOM. Prime Minister of Canada- Justin Trudeau, co-chaired the meeting with Prime Minister of Dominica- Dr Roosevelt Skerrit.

Both diplomatic leaders addressed the meeting and shed light on areas of cooperation, investment and trade between the two regions.

Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew also became part of the vital discussions held in three days and expressed her willingness and concern about several contracts between Canada and CARICOM.

With Friends of the Republic of China (Taiwan)

On the margins of the Canada- CARICOM summit, PM Terrance Drew met with the friends of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in Ottawa. He expressed pleasure in meeting with friends of ROC and shared thoughts on several matters of concern.

The focal point of the meeting was to address several matters related to sustainable economic development. PM Drew outlined his ideas and ways of turning St Kitts and Nevis into a sustainable island nation.

He said that the government has been focusing on good governance and agendas of inclusive development, aiming to enhance the livelihoods of the people of St Kitts and Nevis.

PM Drew said that they continue to pursue sustainable economic development, and they look forward to continued partnership and growth between the two nations.

With Canada’s Minister of Public Safety

While in Canada, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Denzil Douglas, and Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew had a productive meeting on the sidelines of the Canada-CARICOM Summit with Dominica Le Blanc, Canada’s Minister of Public Safety, Democratic Institutions, and Intergovernmental Affairs.

They had fruitful discussions on deepening security cooperation between Canada and Saint Kitts and Nevis, with a shared commitment to fostering a secure, equitable, and inclusive society – a prominent theme at the Summit.

The meeting’s agenda included comprehensive talks on finalizing a security cooperation framework. This framework will address critical areas such as intelligence gathering, control of small arms trade, enhancement of policing efforts, and combating crime and violence.

Other meetings

PM Dr Terrance Drew also had the privilege of meeting with a number of key dignitaries. He shared the vision of the Federation’s Sustainable Island State Agenda at the Canada-CARICOM Summit Welcome Reception hosted by Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau at Fairmont Chateau Laurier.

Besides this, climate change and a resilient future were also filled in the key list of the topics of the discussions at the Summit.

PM Terrance Drew referred to it as an impactful Summit and said he looked forward to further collaboration between the two nations.
