Nevis: Nevis Tourism Authority announced the profile of five contestants for the 2023 Miss Culture Queen Pageant. The event is part of the Culturama Festival, carded from July 27 to August 8, 2023. 

Meet 𝗢𝗗𝗘𝗖𝗜𝗔 𝗘𝗗𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗗𝗦, contestant No. 1 in the 2023 Miss Culture Queen Pageant

Odecia Edwards is a remarkable young woman with a heart full of compassion and a determination to make a difference. As she enters the prestigious Ms Culture Queen Pageant, she is set to embark on a new chapter in her life. No stranger to the stage, Odecia captured the Culturama Ms. Talented Youth in 2016. 

This experience has honed her interpersonal skills and ignited her boundless creativity, making her an extraordinary contestant ready to shine on the stage once again.

Born and raised in a close-knit family, Odecia’s vibrant personality and dedication to her hobbies have shaped her into the extraordinary individual she is today. Driven by her resilience and unwavering determination, Odecia has adopted the personal motto of “Mind Over Matter”. 

This guiding principle serves as a constant reminder that one’s mindset and determination can overcome any obstacles that life presents. Odecia believes in the power of positive thinking, perseverance, and the strength that lies within each individual to rise above challenges.

From a young age, Odecia discovered her innate talent for playing the steel pan, a traditional Caribbean instrument known for its rhythmic melodies and soulful tunes. She quickly became captivated by its enchanting sound, spending countless hours practicing and perfecting her skills. Her passion for the steel pan not only allowed her to express herself artistically but also provided a sense of joy and unity within her community as she performed at various local events and gatherings.

 The steelpan artform was not the only path that captured Odecia’s curious mind. Her thirst for knowledge led her to the enchanting world of books. As an avid reader, she delved into diverse perspectives, exploring different cultures, and expanding her horizons. Through the power of literature, Odecia developed a deep sense of empathy, her empathetic nature would eventually shape her chosen career path.

Guided by her love for children and an unwavering desire to make a meaningful impact, Odecia aspires to pursue a career as a neonatal nurse. Noticing the fragility and innocence of newborn babies, she was captivated by the opportunity to provide tender care and support to the most vulnerable members of society. 

Odeica’s aspiration to become a neonatal nurse stems from her belief that every child deserves a chance at a healthy start in life. Odecia strongly believes that the smallest acts of kindness can have a profound impact on a child’s life and their family’s well-being.

Beyond her personal pursuits, Odecia holds her family dear to her heart. She cherishes the invaluable moments spent with her loved ones especially her older sister Onefa. Odecia’s family forms the bedrock of her support system, providing unwavering encouragement and fostering an environment of love, togetherness, kindness, and resilience.

Odecia sees the Ms. Culture Queen pageant not only as an opportunity to showcase her beauty and charm but also one for personal growth and self-discovery. The invaluable experiences gained will help her to develop confidence, poise and grace, as she networks and forges meaningful connections with like-minded individuals.

Meet 𝗡𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗘𝗟𝗔 𝗦𝗘𝗠𝗣𝗟𝗘, contestant No. 2 in the 2023 Miss Culture Queen Pageant

Residing in the close-knit community of Brick Kiln, is the ambitious and goal oriented Nangela Semple, a beacon of inspiration to many. She firmly believes that in life, nothing worth having comes easy and it’s through patience and perseverance that we achieve greatness.

During her time at the Gingerland Secondary School, Nangela’s vibrant spirit led her to immerse herself in various extracurricular activities, particularly in the realm of sports. From excelling in netball, football and track and field, she left an indelible mark on the athletic landscape. Her prowess as a sprinter and her graceful high jumps earned her accolades in Inter-School Championships. 

Notably, Nangela was recognized as the best under-20 defender, earning the opportunity to represent St. Kitts and Nevis at a regional level.

Driven by a love for the arts, Nangela sought to expand her horizons and joined Elite Dance Theatre.

 Dance became her outlet for self-expression during a challenging period in her life, allowing her emotions to flow where words fell short. Despite the obstacles imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Nangela’s passion for dance remained unwavering. She embraced the opportunity to dance for Young Vibrations Steel Orchestra at Panorama, relishing the family-like atmosphere that fueled her spirit. 

She was then welcomed as a member. Nangela’s participation in Young Vibrations Steel Orchestra offered her valuable opportunities to showcase her talent, including a memorable trip to Montserrat for St. Patrick’s Day. These experiences allowed her to share her musical passion and connect with diverse audiences.

After graduating from the Gingerland Secondary School, Nangela enrolled in the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College. She is currently a part of the nursing assistant program. With a vision of becoming a General Practitioner then specializing in Dermatology, she plans to establish her private practice in the future.

Nangela’s career goal aligns harmoniously with her platform for this Ms. Culture Queen Pageant: Personal Skincare. She holds a strong conviction in educating individuals, especially the younger generation, about the importance of proper skincare. Nangela’s mantra, “filters are great, but great skin is better,” serves as a constant reminder of the significance of nurturing our skin.

In her unwavering pursuit of excellence, Nangela stands as a testament to the power of resilience and the indomitable spirit that drives her forward.

Meet 𝗡𝗬𝗞𝗘𝗜𝗦𝗛𝗔 𝗛𝗘𝗡𝗥𝗬, contestant No. 3 in the 2023 Miss Culture Queen Pageant

Born in Kenya, Citizen of St Kitts – Nevis, Resident of Cherry Garden Nykeisha W. Henry is ambitious, determined and an advocate for protecting the environment.

Nykeisha’s passion for volunteerism was ignited at the tender age of three when she began accompanying her grandmother, a journalist, to the annual International Coastal Clean Ups and the Pink Lily Cancer Care walkathon to promote Breast Cancer Awareness. 

As she grew older, Nykeisha became an active volunteer at the Nevis Historical and Conservation society serving as as a Museum Attendant and in various fundraising activities. She also assisted in many field activities including the Reforestation of Coconut Walk Historical Site.

Nykeisha attended the Nevis International Secondary School and was exposed to many leadership opportunities. She was a Student Council President and helped organize numerous community service and fundraising activities.

Nykeisha is the founder of the youth group, YouthCAN and has documented a historical site in St. Kitts. In 2019, she single-handedly launched an International Petition, which attracted over 2,000 signatures, to promote the ban of single use plastics. She also won an essay competition titled ‘Why I would like to participate in the NBF project to help prevent single-use plastics from entering The Narrows.’

 She was honored with the esteemed title of Green Ambassador for her relentless efforts to protect the environment. Currently, she is a Newcastle Bay Foundation Ambassador and is making plans to produce trendy recycled bags.

In recognition of her remarkable contributions to environmentalism, Nykeisha was honored in 2020 as one of the Federation’s 25 Most Remarkable Teens. In 2021, she achieved the esteemed title of Class Valedictorian at Nevis International Secondary School. Her remarkable academic achievement was exemplified by her outstanding performance, securing ten CSEC passes.

Nykeisha is employed at the Four Seasons Resort in the People and Culture Department and is pursuing an online Associate’s Degree in Marketing at the Houston Community College.

Nykeisha’s life is a perfect balance of work and play, where she embraces her diverse interests with enthusiasm. In addition to her dedication to various environmental and volunteer activities, Nykeisha is equally passionate about the arts. 

She is a member of the Shekhinah Dance Theatre and also finds joy in participating in church youth groups, where she connects with like-minded individuals. Nykeisha’s love for travel provides her with the opportunity to meet and network with people who share her passions, creating meaningful connections along her journey.

Nykeisha attributes her positive attitude and success to her willingness to include positive mentors to help her explore her true potential. She believes in the strong support of her family whom she acknowledges as her tower of strength.

Nykeisha’s positive attitude and remarkable achievements can be attributed to her firm belief in the power of mentorship. She recognizes the importance of surrounding herself with supportive individuals who help her unlock her true potential.

This vibrant cultural ambassador originates from the majestic island of St. Lucia and her journey led her to the captivating shores of Nevis. Nestled among incredible people, immersed in rich folklore and an ever – evolving culture, Nevis became her cherished home.

Her educational path began at the Joycelyn Liburd Primary School, followed by the Gingerland Secondary School, where she excelled and earned the title of top student in her class during 4th and 5th Form. 

Recognized as the best English student, she embodies the spirit of a visionary woman shaping the future. Currently a student at Nevis Sixth Form College, she continues to pursue her academic aspirations.

With a spirited and compassionate nature, she finds joy in the company of children and dreams of becoming an Educator or Counselor to empower and guide the youth. 

Alongside her academic pursuits, she indulges in her passions for dancing, cooking and babysitting. Guided by her personal motto, “Always try, it is never going to hurt to try,” she embarks on a new venture as she enters the prestigious Miss Culture Queen Pageant.

Through her journey, she aims to share her vibrant personality with the world, nurturing confidence, poise and character while promoting holistic development and celebrating the rich culture of Nevis. As a former Talented Youth runner-up, Celina understands that pageantry is an opportunity for individuals to showcase their best, unique and creative selves. It also grants contestants the chance to gain invaluable experiences that shape them into well-rounded individuals in society.

When she’s not gracing the stage, Celina finds solace in sewing, cherishing moments with loved ones, strolling along the beach at night and spending time with children, who in her view, embody innocence and pure joy.

As she navigates through life, Celina embarks on a journey of self-love while nurturing her passion for agriculture, a legacy passed down from her mother. With a desire to make a difference in multiple ways, she aims to empower women through her platform of Women Empowerment, showcasing through her lifestyle that roles are interchangeable and women can excel in all aspects of life.

The entrepreneurial spirit runs deep within Celina, as she has been operating small businesses since her early teens. From selling local drinks and snacks during school break times to crafting and selling her own clothing creations, she thrives on innovative thinking and a drive for success.

Currently pursuing her studies at the Nevis Sixth Form College, Celina has her sights set on university, where she plans to further her education in Clothing, Accounting and Entrepreneurship. Upon graduating with an Associate Degree, she will embark on the next chapter of her academic journey.

In the midst of her dedication and ambition, Celina also brings laughter and light-heartedness to her loved ones as the jovial prankster of her family.
