Castries, Saint Lucia: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism of Saint Lucia Ernest Hilaire shared glimpses of the participation drive held at the Babonneau Secondary School on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. The drive was hosted by the tourism ministry. 

The participation drive was held in preparation for the Junior Minister of Tourism and National Tourism Public Speaking competition. While sharing glimpses of the drive, Ernest Hilaire took to Facebook and stated that the drive is the initiative of the government of Saint Lucia to empower the young generation of the country. 

He added, “In preparation for the Junior Minister of Tourism and National Tourism Public Speaking competition, the Ministry of Tourism held a participation drive with the students of the Babonneau Secondary School today.” 

Deputy Prime Minister Ernest Hilaire referred to the youth as an integral part of the development of any country and stated that true guidance provides them with the path of ultimate growth. He added that the government of Saint Lucia will always work for the upliftment of the youth and implement several initiatives to empower them. 

He also outlines the significance of the participation of the young generation in the decision-making process of the country. Ernest Hilaire added, “The youth are an integral part of our development, and we must engage and involve them at all levels. These initiatives will help to mould and prepare our youth to be the leaders of today and tomorrow.” 

Earlier, the government of Saint Lucia also launched the Youth Economy Agency and provided grants to eleven young entrepreneurs. Prime Minister Philip J Pierre stated that new startups will always be received full support from the government. 

“We will continue to provide the opportunities and resources that our youth require to become wealth creators and productive global citizens.

I encourage all young people to apply to the agency for an opportunity to access grant/loan financing for their business, “said the prime minister.Â
