Elections results: Dominica Labour Party secures landslide victory, wins 19 constituencies

Dominica Labour Party secured a landslide victory in the general elections held on December 6, 2022. They won 19 constituencies out of 21 and emerged victorious for the sixth consecutive polls.

Roseau, Dominica: Dominica Labour Party secured a landslide victory in the general elections held on December 6, 2022. They won 19 constituencies out of 21 and emerged victorious for the sixth consecutive polls.

The electoral office of the country announced the results and stated that the DLP wins a majority of seats. The leader of DLP Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit extended gratitude to the voters for showing belief in them and paving their path to the parliament for the next five years.

He also thanked Castle Bruce people for electing their candidate with highest voter turnout.

The polling was held on 15 seats as the representatives of the parliament on the six seats were duly elected on the nomination day(November 18, 2022) .

The 19 candidates of the Dominica Labour Party have secured the clean sweep victory in their respective constituencies while two constituencies namely Salisbury and Marigot were secured by independent candidates.

The duly elected candidates of Dominica Labour Party are as follows:

·  COLIHAUT CONSTITUENCY- Darren Pinard

· COTTAGE CONSTITUENCY- Roland Royer

• PAIX BOUCHE CONSTITUENCY- Lakeyia Lennicia Jamelle

• PETITE SAVANNE CONSTITUENCY- Julian B.G Defoe

ROSEAU VALLEY CONSTITUENCY– Irving Francis McIntyre

• VIEILLE CASE CONSTITUENCY- Roosevelt Skerrit

Along with that, Dominica Labour Party secured clean sweep victory on 13 other seats.

Firstly, from Grand Bay constituency, Vince Henderson of DLP emerged victorious with 1139 votes and secured the 97.06 voting turnout. While, Lyndon Peters of Team Unity Dominica placed on second slot with 17 votes.

Melissa Poponne Skerrit secured the Roseau Central again for the next five years with 1023 votes. Her voting turnout was 92.00 percent. The opposition and independent candidate Karshma Richards received 48 votes with 4.32 percent from the constituencies.

The Castle Bruce Constituency won by Octavia Alfred of DLP with 782 votes and secured 85.09 turnout. On the other hand, the independent candidate Kelvin Cadette received 137 votes with voting percentage 14.91.

Dr Cassandra Williams of Dominica Labour Party paved the path to the parliament from La Plaine constituency with 690 votes. The voting turnout emerged 94.65 percentage. Further, the second place was bagged by the candidate of Team Unity Dominica Jason Fontaine with 30 votes with 5.35% voting turnout.

DLP candidate Cassani C Laville became the parliamemt representative from Mahaunt constituency with 2016 votes. The voting turnout was 96.18 percent. On the other hand, the independent candidate Dunstan Peters received 80 votes (3.82%).

The Grand Fond constituency was secured by DLP candidate Gretta Bernadette Roberts with 571 votes. The voting percentage was 76.64. The independent candidate secured a 23.36 vote share with 174 votes.

Fenella Wenham of Dominica Labour Party claimed a clean sweep victory with 916 votes from Portsmouth. The voting percentage was 88.93%. Now she is ready to serve for the next five years in the constituency.

Alethea Blanchard of DLP won Roseau North with 1486 votes with a voting turnout of 87.70%. On the other hand, the second and third place was secured by Independent candidates with 115 and 92, respectively.

Roseau South was bagged by DLP candidate Chekira Nikisha Sara Lockhart with 1739 votes. The voting turnout came to 81.34%. The independent candidates lost the battle after securing 312 and 87 votes.

With 334 votes, DLP candidate Cozier Pius Frederick secured the Salybia Constituency. The voting turnout was 66.93 percent. On the other hand, the independent candidate received 165 votes and stood in second place with a voting share of 33.07 percent.

St Joseph Constituency will be served by Darren Tevin Lloyd from DLP with 91 votes. The voting share is 91.92 percent. The two independent candidates secured 3 and 4 votes while Team Unity Dominica received one vote.

The Soufriere constituency was secured by Dominica Labour Party candidate Denise Charles with 1236 votes. The voting turnout was 94.14 percent. The Independent Candidate Tahira Blanchard received 77 votes (5.86%).

Wesley Constituency was secured by Fidel Grant of DLP with 717 votes. The voting turnout emerged as 70.99 percent.

The two seats Marigot and Salisbury won by the Independent Candidates.

Independent Candidate Anthony S. Charles won the Marigot constituency with 491 votes (59.44%). While George Reverie received 329 votes.

Independent Candidate Jesma Paul won with 617 votes with a voting turnout of 57.13 percent and Lynsia Frank of DLP lost, receiving 463 votes (42.87%) from the Salisbury Constituency.
