Europe: The European Commission’s chief spokesman, Eric Mamer, took to Twitter and announced that the EC took concrete steps to implement the EU Security Union strategy. 

While outlining the steps, he stated that EU Commission proposes: 

  • New rules on Advance Passenger Information 
  • Action plan against trafficking in cultural goods

Eric Mamer asserted that the EU continues its progress in strengthening its overall security architecture, which aims to enhance EU citizens’ protection, as also shown in the Fifth Security Union Progress Report. 

The first step aimed to strengthen the use of the Advance Passenger Information (API) data which is one of the core actions in the implementation of the EU Security Union strategy. 

He asserted, “Every year, over 1 billion passengers travel to and within the EU. New Advance Passenger Information rules will help by increasing security, providing clear rules for air carriers faster detection of criminal activity.” 

Eric Mamer declared that on Tuesday, they also mark three years of constant progress in our Security EU Strategy. The focus is full-on protection of critical infrastructures, the fight against terrorism and radicalisation fight against organised crime EU borders EU neighbourhood.

He also outlined the in order to discuss the ways of enhancement of the EU Security Union, Eric Mamer stressed, “Enhancing the EU Security Union today’s EU Commission College will meet to discuss:

  • Revision of the anti-trafficking Directive
  • Obligation of carriers to communicate advance passenger information.” 

The new rules on API will introduce:

  • Uniform rules on API data collection: The new rules will be consisted of a closed list of the elements of the API data. It will collect the API data and single point for the transfer of the data. 

He added, “The EU Commission has proposed measures to make the EU VAT system fit for the digital age real-time digital reporting based on e-invoicing updated VAT rules for passenger transport & short-term accommodation platforms single VAT registration in EU.”
