Earthquake of 5.4 magnitude hit several Caribbean nations

Several Caribbean islands such as Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica and St Kitts and Nevis has reported the tremors of an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4 on Tuesday, February 15, 2022.

An earthquake rocked the Caribbean nations; however, no immediate fatalities and any destruction of the property has been recorded, as per the reports of the Trinidad-based Seismic Research Centre (SRC) of the University of the West Indies.

The Research Centre has stated that the Earthquake has not caused any damage to the properties and the lives of the people in the Caribbean island nations.

While informing about the incident of Earthquake in the various Caribbean nation, José R. Ribeiro, a weather expert, took to Twitter and cited,” Ten minutes ago, the M5.0 earthquake was widely felt in Guadeloupe, Antigua, Montserrat, Dominica and Nevis St. Kitts, in the Leeward Islands”.

As per the reports, the tremors of the quake have been felt in the countries at around 4:03 am on a Monday morning. The quake has located at a Latitude of 16.74North, while the Longiutute has felt 61.35W and also felt at a depth of 19 kilometres.

The SRS further reported that the tremor of the quake has also been reported at the 53km northeast of Point-à-Pitre, the capital of the French island of Guadeloupe. On the other hand, the Earthquake has been felt at 69km south east of St John’s Antigua and Barbuda. Moreover, the capital of Roseau of Dominica has felt the tremor of the 60 km at the north side of the Dominican capital.

Various other places across the world have also felt the tremors of the Earthquake, and José R. Ribeiro provided the information and noted,” Less than one hour ago, the M6.2 earthquake in Guatemala was also felt in Mexico, El Salvador and Honduras. It could do some damage, despite not being shallow”.
