Jamaica: As June 5 was celebrated as World Environment Day across the globe, Kamina Johnson Smith- Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, also joined others to extend and greet people on the day. 

Through her social media post, she wished everyone on the day and outlined the importance of a safe and secure environment for humans and every living being on the earth. 

Kamina Johnson Smith noted, “Today we celebrate World Environment Day 2022 under the theme ‘Only One Home’. More than ever, we must continue to adopt best practices for sustainable living and encourage habits that reduce our carbon footprint. This is our home; let’s all do our best to protect it.”

She further emphasized that necessary steps should be taken to protect the natural reserves, which are important for the lives on the earth. Kamina Smith stated that everyone must have to adopt cautious measures of sustainable living that could assist in the significant reduction of carbon footprints.  

Kamina Johnson Smith is Jamaica’s candidate for the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, and the elections to fill the post will be held during the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Kigali, Rwanda, in June.

She also visited various countries across the globe, including the countries in the African region and the Caribbean region, to promote herself for the position of the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth. In the regions, she met different political leaders and shared her re-emerging vision and agenda for the top position.

World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 annually, and the theme for this year is “Only One Earth”, which outlines the importance of the earth and its natural reserves for the lives of human beings and various living beings. 

United Nations launched the day as World Environment Day to create awareness about the protection of the earth and its environment as the earth is the only livable planet, and people have to take action to reset the balance between people and the natural world to create a better future for all.   

The main focus of the theme for this year is to create an atmosphere which could disseminate peace, harmony, prosperity and health by saving nature and life.
