Dominican PM Skerrit visits Joe Burton area in Wesley

Prime Minister of Dominica Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit visited the Joe Burton area in Wesley to inspect the development construction of area residential units.

Dominica: Prime Minister of Dominica Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit visited the Joe Burton area in Wesley to inspect the development construction of area residential units.

In an official statement on his social media account, PM Skerrit said, “In this area for the homeowners who will be displaced by the construction of Dominica’s International Airport.”

Dominica’s government is highly committed towards the International Airport project, and it’s going to cost between 800-900 million dollars.

According to the government of Dominica, the IKAO and Eastern Caribbean Aviation Authority are involved at every step, and continuous consultations are being done frequently.

The World Bank has also expanded its airport experts to help the Caribbean island with the international airport project.

Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit stated in November 2020 that World Bank airport specialists would retain as an independent group of experts and examine all documents, including the ones arising from the American firm- Landrum and Brown that is currently operating on the designs of the airport.

Dr. Skerrit refers to the international airport project as the “biggest” and the “game-changer” for Dominica.

The government of Dominica is ensuring that all landowners are compensated well. The prime minister remarked that the government is giving houses to those who have admitted for homes and giving lands in trade for land for those who accepted it.

Public reaction:

Willys, a resident of Dominica, said,” I pray for health and strength for my leader Dr.Roosevelt Skerrit; by the grace of God, Dominica will move forward.”

Claire said, “They need small farms as the PM has in Vielle’s case; what is good for a poor boy made rich by the votes of the people is good for the people. Dominicans do not need high rise flats and the ensuing social problems of crime.”

Besides this, the airport would also have the capacity of long haul flights.

The construction work is required to begin in the first quarter of this year.
