Roseau, Dominica: The players of the Dominica Team has shined brightly in the 5th ALBA Games in Venezuela. They have secured several accomplishments, such as a silver medal in boxing, victory in a chess match and well performances in basketball and volleyball.

Firstly Boxer Delroy Jno Charles won first medal for Dominica and secured silver medal. Along with that Kurnish Jean Jacques has qualified for the finals of the Boys 400-meter event at the 5th ALBA Games in Venezuela.

He ran a time of 52.32 seconds in his heat to finish in 3rd place. The race was won by Kelvis Padrino Villas of Venezuela won in a time of 47.64 seconds. The finals will take place on Thursday at 10:20 am. 

Further, Cherister Durand is through to the Finals of the Girls 400 meters event at the 5th ALBA Games in Venezuela. She ran 59.06 seconds in the second semi finals to place 4th. The race was won by Roxana Gomez of Cuba in a time of 51.50 seconds. The finals will take place Thursday Morning at 10am.

Keva Pierre placed 4th in the first Girls 400 meter Semi finals in Athletics at 5th ALBA Games in Venezuela. She ran a time of 57.81 seconds. Her time was good enough to qualify for the finals of the Girls 400 meter event. The first semi final race was won by Liesnedy Veita of Cuba in a time of 53.35 seconds. Venezuela “A” placed second and Venezuela “B” Third. The finals will take place Thursday morning at 10am. 

Dominica Boy’s under 17 basketball team crushed St Lucia in boys basketball winning 132-29 to pick up their first win at the 5th ALBA Games in Venezuela. Sports Division Dominica consider it a big win for Dominica over Saint Lucia at 5th ALBA Games in boys basketball.

Boys under 17 basketball team coach Yannick Regis speaking following Dominica’s 132-29 win over Saint Lucia at the 5th ALBA Games stated that he is very proud of the whole team entire team. This was a team effort and they came from the start of the game today and with a kind of effort.  

“We need something to boost our morale, and we have this game against Nicaragua and the momentum of the motivation from this game will definitely roll over to that game, and that’s something we’re looking for, “said the coach. 

He further added, “We have a tournament to win and we still believe that we can win this tournament and that is the final goal. Our Mission is not complete winning by over 100 points.”

Dominica Boy’s under 17 basketball team put up 85 points in the first half. Dominica leads Saint Lucia 85-18 at half time and are well on their way to their first victory at the ALBA Games. Along with that, Nigel Francis became the first Dominican to beat a Fide Master in Chess at the 5th ALBA Games in Venezuela. Francis was the top Chess player from Dominica, with a score of 5/9 from the nine rounds played.
