Dominica: Work on drilling of two geothermal wells at Roseau Valley in full swing

The government of the Commonwealth of Dominica is adamant about fulfilling the aim of being the world's first climate resilient nation.

Roseau, Dominica: The government of the Commonwealth of Dominica is adamant about fulfilling the aim of being the world’s first climate resilient nation. Continuing movement on the same path, Dominica is working tirelessly to create resilience in every field so that country could become able to fight the climate issue.

In the recent move, the government is working to strengthen and advance the Geothermal Energy Project of Dominica as satisfactorily work happened in the Roseau Valley for the drilling of two geothermal wells.

Preparatory works are ongoing in the Roseau Valley for the drilling of two geothermal wells to advance Dominica’s Geothermal Energy Project.

The government of Dominica has contracted with the local firm, ACE Engineering Ltd. Under their work, they will construct two well pads across roads to the sites and a temporary water supply for the drilling operations

The government of Dominica writes, “Local firm ACE Engineering Ltd. is contracted to construct two well pads, access roads to the sites and a temporary water supply for the drilling operations.”

Some interesting facts about well pad:

The well pads include an oil/water separator tank to remove run-off sediments and other waste from the water before releasing it into the environment, as well as a mud-pit to manage waste generated from drilling.

A well pad is a relatively flat work area within the geothermal field used for drilling a well. Iceland Drilling Company Ltd. will undertake the drilling later this year.

Minister for Planning, Economic Development, Climate Resilience, Sustainable Development, and Renewable Energy, Dr Vince Henderson, led a site visit to the area on Wednesday, May 18, 2022.

Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit also provided an update on the project and stated that it would assist the country in further enhancing its aim of becoming the world’s first climate resilient nation.
